Volunteer With New Vision!

At New Vision Renewable Energy, volunteers are the heartbeat of everything we do. Whether it’s students learning hands-on skills through our Prevention Works program or adults lending their time and talents to build homes in the New Vision Village, every project we undertake is powered by the dedication of community members who believe in something bigger than themselves. We rely on the passion, energy, and generosity of volunteer groups to help us bring hope, opportunity, and lasting change to rural communities. Simply put—without volunteers, none of this would be possible!

FAQ

At New Vision Renewable Energy, we believe in the power of community. Whether you're a skilled artisan, a student, or someone simply eager to lend a helping hand, there's a place for you here. Below are some common questions about volunteering with us!

What kind of volunteer work is available?

We welcome volunteers of all skill levels—no experience needed! Whether you’re handy with tools or just willing to learn, we’ll find the perfect way for you to contribute. Volunteers have the opportunity to:

  • Build tiny homes for our New Vision Village

  • Assemble Ray of Life solar lights to be shipped worldwide

  • Landscape and enhance outdoor spaces

  • Work with stone to create beautiful, lasting features

  • Paint murals, signs, and buildings to brighten up our spaces

  • Engage in community outreach, including church and sports camps

Every set of hands makes a difference!

How long can we volunteer?

We offer flexible volunteer opportunities to fit your schedule:

  • Half-day (9 AM – 12 PM)

  • Full-day (9 AM – 4 PM)

  • Multi-day/overnight stays (great for groups!)

What does a typical volunteer day look like?

Volunteering with us is all about teamwork, impact, and meaningful experiences. Here’s what to expect:

  • 9:00 AM – Gather for a warm welcome, a grounding moment, and an overview of the day’s projects

  • 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM – Get to work with support from New Vision team leaders

  • 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM – Break for lunch and community connection

  • 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM – Continue working on projects (for full-day volunteers)

  • 4:00 PM – Group debrief with our Volunteer Coordinator

Every day is different, but one thing stays the same—you’ll leave knowing you made a real difference!

What should we bring?

To ensure a safe and comfortable experience, we recommend bringing:

  • Work gloves & clothes (expect to get a little messy!)

  • Sneakers or sturdy shoes

  • Sunscreen & bug spray

  • Reusable water bottle & snacks

  • Any necessary medications or supplements

  • Hat, sunglasses, or protective goggles

If you're an artist, craftsperson, or skilled worker,

feel free to bring your own supplies—paintbrushes,

tools, or anything else you'd love to use!

Do you offer overnight accommodations?

Yes! For groups staying multiple days, we provide accommodations that include:

  • Sleeping areas with access to bathrooms and common spaces

  • Kitchen & refrigerator access for storing food and drinks

  • Nearby town amenities (grocery store, gas station, restaurants, etc.)

To help cover housing and food expenses, we ask for a $20 donation per person per night. If you're planning an overnight stay, just let us know in your volunteer inquiry!

What happens in case of a medical emergency?

Your safety is our priority! New Vision is just 10 minutes from Philippi, WV, where you’ll find a hospital, medical clinic, grocery store, and other essentials.

What if the weather is bad?

Mountain weather can be unpredictable, but don’t worry—

we always have important work to do, rain or shine!

If needed, we’ll adjust plans and move projects indoors.

We just ask our volunteers to be flexible with us!

When should we schedule our visit?

We encourage groups to volunteer during the 2nd and 4th weekends of April and May, but we’re happy to accommodate other dates whenever possible. Reach out, and we’ll make it work!

What food options are available?

For single-day and week-long volunteers, we provide lunch each day. While we do our best to accommodate dietary needs, we don’t have a dietician on staff.

If you have specific dietary restrictions, we encourage you to bring any additional food you may need to ensure you’re comfortable. If you have special requests, please let us know in your initial inquiry, and we’ll do our best to support you!
